Charlie Cannon becomes Hood River's Acupuncture Sports Medicine Practitioner!

In February, 2016 Charlie became the only certified Acupuncture Sports Medicine practitioner in the Columbia River Gorge. The accredited certification was taught by Whitfield Reaves, an accomplished practitioner and educator of over 30+ years. This mentored certification focuses on diagnosis and treatment of sports related injuries of the neck, upper extremity, back, and lower extremity.

The sixty-hour certification course offers professional insight, clinical pearls of wisdom and enhances a practitioner’s ability to effectively treat the many sports related conditions from injury or overuse. Whitfield’s small group mentorship-style education, instruction and supervision offer the guidance and precision to perform highly effective needling and treatment techniques required to make lasting change.

Areas covered in the Acupuncture Sports Medicine Certification were:

Neck, Shoulder and Upper Extremity Treatment of the neck, the shoulder, including the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, rotator cuff muscles, the AC joint, and the biceps tendon. Other upper extremity conditions included medial and lateral epicondylitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and arthritis of the wrist and hand.

Back and Lower Extremity

Treatment of the mid to low back, hip and pelvis, including the gluteus medius and gluteus minimus, the SI joint, and the quadratus lumborum muscle. Other lower extremity conditions included IT band syndrome, knee instability, patello-femoral joint dysfunction, and shin splints. The ankle and foot treatments included Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, and arthritis of the big toe joint.

“I feel so fortunate and grateful to have studied with one of the best and longest serving Acupuncture Sports Medicine practitioners here in the U.S. with such a wealth of information and clinical expertise.” – Charlie Cannon, LAc, Columbia River Acupuncture
